Charles P. Cogswell papers, 1817-1907.

Papers of Norwich, Connecticut, businessman Charles Perkins Cogswell. Cogswell began as a cashier with the Second National Bank in Norwich. He was subsequently promoted to Vice President and ultimately President of the bank, as well as serving for many years as a director. The correspondence in the collection describes Cogswell's many investments. Many of those investments were in the midwest. Earlier papers include land deeds signed by Cogswell's father, Dr. William Henry Cogswell.

Charles P. Cogswell, the son of William H. Cogswell and his wife, Lucretia Payne, was born in Connecticut in November 1835. He served as president of the Second National Bank of Norwich, Connecticut, as well as a director of, and investor in, railroads and other businesses in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and other western territories. He and his wife Sarah had two daughters, Alice (b. 1865) and Amy (b. 1867). Charles P. Cogswell died on March 13, 1912. From the guide to the Charles Cogswell...
